How to Make Yorkie Puppy Clothes

    • 1). Decide what you want to make: A dress, shirt, skirt, costume, hair accessory or other item. Choose fabric that you think will be appropriate. Avoid heavy fabrics such as fleece or wool as these will be too warm for your furry little friend (unless of course you're making a snow coat). Also avoid fabric with little external detailing or glitter-type adhesives as these can easily get caught in all the small places dogs scurry through or make a mess when they come off.

    • 2). Measure the top of the dog's legs and write it down. Measure the neck and write this down. Then measure the waist line (the narrowest point) and chest (fullest point) and write these down. Figure out which measurements you will need based upon what you're making.

    • 3). Sketch a design for what you plan on making. Then draw the sketch on a sheet of paper drawn according to the measurements you took. Lay one side of the design flat against the dog's body (typically their back). Make sketching adjust as needed if your sizing is off for some reason.

    • 4). Cut out the design template. Place it over the fabric and draw it on to the inside or back side of the fabric. Duplicate for the opposite side. Cut out the fabric templates. Sew the edges on the sewing machine and create hems. On an open seam hem it and then sew on velcro strips for easy fitting. Decorate with any embellishments you want such as lace, rhinestones or even pockets for their puppy bones. Try it on your little one and take a picture. Have fun and be creative!
