- Bubblewrap is addicting in both its real-life and virtual forms.bubble wrap image by Vonora from Fotolia.com
Bubblewrap games have been around as long as the product itself, and have now enjoyed a new incarnation technologically, as smart phones and Internet sites offer virtual bubble popping amusement. No matter what your age, chances are it's difficult for you to resist even one pop.
- If you have a roll of bubblewrap, you can play plenty of games with it. The simplest and most classic is simply cutting sheets of bubble wrap for all participants and racing to see who can pop all of their bubbles first. This can, of course, be maddening to listen to for someone in the room who is not playing, but it can also ironically add to the fun for the players. Another game involves taking the large bubblewrap and laying it down in a courtyard, corridor or gymnasium. Tape the sides down firmly, and then allow participants to run or skate over the bubblewrap.
Smart Phone Bubblewrap Games
- One of the most prolific virtual bubblewrap games as of 2010 is the iPhone application known as "BubbleFREE." A free app downloadable for the iPod Touch and iPhone, the game simply involves a screen filled with bubblewrap. Tap the screen rapidly with your index finger and "pop" the bubbles as quickly as you can. You can beat your own score through a time trial option. Other smart phones have similar bubblewrap games available, including the Android and Windows Mobile.
Computer Bubblewrap Games
- The concept for the phone applications came from the Original Virtual Bubble Wrap, a website that has been popping since 1996. The site includes virtual bubblewrap e-cards to send to friends who need a game break at work; "insane bubblewrap" that replaces the standard "pop" with kooky sound effects; and "musical bubblewrap" that allows you to compose your own tune on a strip of online bubblewrap. For a colorful, more elaborate take on the traditional virtual pop, try Popopop by Bad Viking. With over 42 popping puzzles, you can advance through to more difficult levels.
