Ever noticed how some people do not even gain an ounce of weight no matter how big they eat and some people gain weight easily even if they are controlling their food intake? This is a bit frustrating, especially for people like me who are trying their best to lose weight.
Metabolism is the body's process of burning energy or calories to maintain itself.
It is a big factor in losing weight.
It is affected by nutrition, hydration, and physical activity.
Lacking one of these will slow down our metabolism.
We need to achieve a high metabolic rate to shed off excess fats and get back in shape.
How do we speed up our metabolism? Exercise is a given in any lose weight program.
We need to move to sweat off the excess calories.
But is there any lose weight diet that we can follow to help increase our metabolic rate? I can not give you specific lose weight diet plans since a specific plan may work for me but may not work for you.
So what I am going to do is to give you a list of food groups that will help you hasten your metabolism.
Foods rich in fiber and complex carbohydrates.
Fiber-rich foods such as oatmeal and whole grain cereals increase your metabolic rate by keeping your insulin levels low.
Insulin is responsible for sending a signal to your body that it is time to start stocking up fat.
Once your body gets the message, it slows down metabolism to accommodate the fats, which results to fewer calories burned.
So oatmeal for breakfast is always a good thing.
According to studies, 25% of calories in protein foods can be burnt off.
Since it takes more energy to digest protein in meat compared to carbs or fat, the body works harder and more calories will be burned in the process.
High protein foods include learn beef and pork, turkey, and chicken.
Capsaicin, the chemical present in spicy foods such as peppers, habanero, and jalapeno causes a burning sensation when it comes in contact with mucous membranes.
This chemical gives the heat or pungency that is often present in spicy foods.
How does this affect our metabolism? It speeds up our heart rate.
According to an '80s study, a spicy meal can speed up your metabolism by 25% and still burns calories up to three hours after you are done eating.
Coffee and Green Tea.
Coffee and green tea contain the chemicals, caffeine and EGCG (Epigallocatechin Gallate) which also increases metabolism.
Caffeine, which is present in coffee helps speed up the heart rate.
Faster heart rate means more calories burned.
In the same way EGCG, the main ingredient of green tea, causes the brain and nervous system to run more quickly, in the process, helps burn more calories.
Whenever you try any lose weight diet plans, it is always advisable to consult your doctor.
Some food products may pose health risks for some people.
For example, caffeine and tea are not recommended for those with high blood pressure since they increase the heart rate.
Consulting your doctor first is always necessary before trying anything.
